This mineral may look like hematite at first glance. However Carrolite, Cu(Co,Ni)2S4 (Copper Cobalt Nickel Sulfide), is gray metallic Sulfide mineral containing a rich mixture of Copper, Cobalt and Nickel. It forms crystals, some very large, in hydrothermal veins. It a rare mineral, found recently in Africa and takes the shape striking octagonal crystals. These crystals are nestled amongst white calcite crystals.
