A terminated topaz crystal (4.6 cm) perches on a smoky quartz, albite and mica matrix.A terminated topaz crystal (4.6 cm) perches on a smoky quartz, albite and mica matrix. The quartz is terminated, thought etched in back. The termination and the upper part of the primary faces are splendidly smooth and very well defined, while the rest of the specimen has incredible dissolution shapes. This striking topaz is from recent finds at Itinga, Brazil. I have seen personally only a very few blue topaz in matrix from Brazil, and not another such as this, with a sharp blue gem perched on a large terminated quartz crystal.
